After 14 years and 27 deaths while being constructed, the Brooklyn Bridge over the East River is opened, connecting the great cities of New York and Brooklyn for the first time in history.
The suspension bridge was an engineering marvel when it was constructed; however, what is lost is that tragically 27 of the builders lost their lives, by various means such as compression sickness, structural collapses, and fire. It is not known how many additional men working on this bridge were injured in any capacity.
It would not be until 40 years later that workers’ compensation laws would be passed in New York. Unfortunately there was no available compensation for the families who lost their main financial support.
Thankfully today in Ohio if you have a family member who is killed or injured on the job, there is compensation available. However, the employer does not always make it easy for the injured worker or their family to obtain benefits from work related injuries. This is why you need to consult the experienced attorneys at Dennis Seaman & Associates who have over 125 years of combined experience representing injured workers.
